Welcome to the October issue of the Old Pauline Club eNews
We always enjoy celebrating the achievements of OPs in this newsletter. This month is certainly no exception. We were extremely proud to hear that Professor Duncan Haldane (1965-69) had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for his work, with two other academics, in theoretical discoveries into matter. On behalf of the entire St Paul’s and Old Pauline Club community we extend our congratulations to him for his magnificent achievement. You can read more in our news story below.

Duncan Haldane identified the influence of an inspirational physics teacher during his last year at St Paul’s, who he remembers simply as ‘Little Bill’, in steering his future career. Read more

ImpSoc celebrates 10 Year Anniversary
When former SPS English teacher, Mr Benyon, set up an improvised comedy society with a bunch of keen Eighth formers in September 2006, he probably had no idea it would flourish...Read more
Old Boys Game
A great crowd of parents, old boys and staff turned out for an Old Boys Games match at the School on 24 September, which was a wonderful way to welcome the boys back to School. Read more
Support St Paul’s at the Head of the Charles
The annual Head of the Charles Regatta will take place in Boston on the weekend of 22 and 23 October 2016. Join us to cheer on the SPS crews. Read more
New York Lunch Report
Eight Old Paulines, Paulinas and a guest gathered for a pre-autumnal lunch in warm sunny New York City at the Greenwich Village establishment Cornelia Street Cafe owned by OP, Robin Hirsch. With the Cornelia Cuvee provided by Mine Host it was a very convivial gathering.

Black & White Gala - Call for Auction Prizes

Join
Paulines and St Paul’s staff for lunch as they visit New York as part of their US Universities tour this month. It will be a great opportunity for the boys to find out what it’s like to be an Old Pauline in the US. Lunch takes place at the Cornelia Street Café, Greenwich Village at 12.30pm, please email Nick Hoversten if you’re able to attend.
Old Pauline Lodge Meeting
27 October
The Old Pauline Lodge is holding an Open Evening with Dinner in the Montgomery Room at the School on 27 October. This is an opportunity to learn about the lodge and experience our fellowship and the excellent quality of our dining. The lodge meets four times a year, raises funds for school bursaries, and intervisits with other Public School lodges. All OPs are welcome. Contact Nigel Young at secretary@oldpaulinelodge.org.uk.

OP Adrian Butterfield (1978-83) is delighted to announce the release of a CD featuring the likes of Kathryn Parry on violins and Rachel Stott on viola.
 
Music: The Battle of the Somme Concert
In support of ‘Help for Heroes’, William Goodchild (1977-81) will be conducting the Bristol Symphony Orchestra at Clifton Cathedral on 18 November. 
Music: All Saints Classical Concert
Robin Wedderburn features in this concert to raise awareness of mental health. It will be held at All Saints Church, East Sheen on Sunday 16 October, 6.30pm. Tickets cost £12 (free for children).
