Welcome to the October issue of the Old Pauline Club eNews.

With the clocks going back in less than two weeks and nights starting to draw in, now is the perfect time to book into one or more of the upcoming Old Pauline Club events, or treat yourself to a classic OP scarf to keep yourself warm! There are lots of activities happening this side of Christmas, so there should be plenty to choose from. We hope you enjoy this month's news.

Cambridge University Dinner

6 November
All Old Paulines currently studying or working at Cambridge University are invited to the Old Pauline Club's annual Students' Dinner at the University.

This year's Dinner will take place on Friday 6 November.

Entrepreneurs's Dinner

12 November
Aimed at current and Old Paulines, this event provides a wonderful opportunity to meet established and successful entrepreneurial OPs and parents, listen to their personal experiences and discuss the pros and cons of setting up a start-up.

Oxford University Dinner

13 November
We are delighted to invite all Old Paulines currently studying or working at Oxford University to the Old Pauline Club's annual Students Dinner at the University.

The Whitting Lecture

19 November 
Any OPs with an interest in history, especially art historians, are invited to this year's Whitting Lecture which will be given by St Paul’s School Head of History, Graham Seel. Join us for an illustrated talk about the artist Charles Sims and his highly controversial oil painting King John assents to the Magna Carta 1215.

Supper evening

11 December
The Old Pauline Club will round off the year with our annual Supper Evening, the traditional Christmas Dinner which will this year take place at St Paul’s School. We hope you take this opportunity to book a table with your former classmates, catch up on the year and celebrate the festive season. Book your place online.
 
OLD PAULINE CLUB NEWS 
Alleynian Regatta Win for Boat Club  
In early September nine Old Paulines, with leaving dates ranging from 2012 to 2015, congregated at Putney Embankment to compete in the annual Alleynian Regatta – a series of 500-metre rowing races hosted by Dulwich College for alumni boat clubs. 
The Regatta concluded a successful season for the Colet Boat Club.

Immortal ends
The play, Immortal finished its run on Saturday, 5 September raising over £3,000 for the the St Paul's School Bursary fund.

The cast, which included five Old Paulines and one Old Paulina, would like to thank the Old Pauline community for their support and hope all those who attended enjoyed the performance.

Shanghai Connections
Philip Cacouris (1982-86) has moved from Paris to Shanghai to work with Conde Nast China to set up a new training centre for young graduates and professionals interested in continuing education courses.

Lunch in New York!
15 Old Paulines, Paulinas and guests gathered at Old Pauline Robin Hirsch’s Cornelia Street Café in Greenwich Village in New York City for lunch on Tuesday September 15, 2015. 

Robin recounted some of the history of the café, including  the tribute hosted there in memory of frequent Café visitor and Science Club presenter, OP Dr. Oliver Sacks.

St Paul's School News 
Sailing season starts with Bart's Bash

The St Paul’s Sailing Squad took part in the largest sailing event in the world, Bart’s Bash.  

Great performances were demonstrated from the whole squad for the first race of the season, with Waha and Forsyth finishing 1st in the Feva fleet at the local race.

OLD PAULINE BOOKS
Real Tennis Today and Yesterday
J M Shneerson (1959-65), Consultant Physician at the Papworth Hospital NHS Trust with specialties in respiratory and sleep medicine, has written his second book on real tennis.

The book looks at the game of tennis from its origins to the present, examining the countries where tennis was and is played, how history and technology have shaped the game and the important people who have played and influenced the sport.

Real Tennis Today and Yesterday, will be published in hardback and signed leather-bound library editions by Ronaldson Publications in November.
