SPARTA: JEANS – A FIL BLEU Which Connects The World

Did you know that ‘jeans’ is the English mispronunciation of toile de Genès, a canvas that arrived from the Italian city of Genoa in Southampton? Or that in the Vittoriano in Rome there are the jeans of Giuseppe Garibaldi, known as “the hero of the two worlds”, who made the unification of Italy? Or that from medieval times, the working class in all of Europe have worn jeans?

SPARTA invites you to join this prestigious panel of speakers for an open discussion about the impact of this historic fabric, in the past and especially now, in fashion, art and the environment. Panellists include:

Francesca Centurione-Scotto Boschieri: Genoa’s Ambassador to the world, journalist and writer, will introduce the history of jeans in art and the Artejeans project for a Contemporary Museum of Jeans in Genoa.

Francesca Pasquali: Francesca will talk about her last installation, Trèssa at the Tornabuoni art gallery and her focus on the transformation of plastic and industrial materials, as well as the relationship between natural and artificial, and organic and inorganic. Francesca studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Among her personal exhibition, in 2021, Natura Plastica, her works are presented in publicly, both in Italy and internationally.

Simon Giuliani: of Candiani Denim, will discuss sustainability and innovation. Established in 1938, Candiani Denim is a family run company and in the last 75 years has grown to the world’s finest and most sustainable denim mill. Candiani is known as the greenest textile company in the world and produces for the most prestigious names in the market.
