Topical Tuesdays: For the Love of Physics with Zahaan Bharmal OP (1990–95)

25 NOVEMBER 2025

7:30pm

Zoom Webinar

As the United Nations marks 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, Old Pauline Zahaan Bharmal, author of The Art of Physics, invites us to look at physics not just as a subject but as a way of seeing the world. In this talk he explores how the ideas of physics reach far beyond the classroom, shaping art, technology and everyday life. He will ask why physics is once again capturing attention, and why it deserves to sit at the heart of how we think about the future.

Zahaan read Physics at Oxford University before becoming a management consultant and working for the UK civil service.  He gained an MBA at Stanford where he was a Fulbright scholar and he currently works at Google as a Senior Director. Zahaan has never lost his passion for physics and science and we won a prestigious medal from NASA for services to science education. He also writes for the Guardian about space.

In his spare time: Zahaan is married, a dad to two boys aged 9 and 6, and now lives in Yorkshire countryside where his neighbours are sheep and chicken.
