The Topical Tuesdays series sees guests speakers from the St Paul’s Community share their take on the current environment.

In conversation with the High Master, writers Sam Bain OP, 1984-89 and Patrick Neate OP, 1984-89 join us for this Topical Tuesday to talk about their personal experiences of writing creatively for the page and screen in the rapidly changing media environment.

Sam Bain – co-created and co-wrote 9 seasons of the BAFTA-winning TV sitcom Peep Show, and 4 seasons of the RTS Award-winning comedy-drama Fresh Meat, both for Channel 4. He also co-wrote the BAFTA-winning film Four Lions. His debut stage play, The Retreat, had a sold out run at the Park Theatre in 2017. Since moving to the US, Sam has had two original feature films produced – Corporate Animals starring Demi Moore and The Stand-In starring Drew Barrymore.

Patrick Neate – has written for screen, stage, bedside table, dental surgery and lounge bar. His books include Twelve Bar Blues, which won the Whitbread (now Costa) novel prize, Where You’re At, which won the NBCC award for criticism, and, most recently, Small Town Hero. His film work includes The Tesseract, an adaptation of the Alex Garland novel, and City of Tiny Lights, an adaptation of his own novel, starring Riz Ahmed and Bille Piper.
