Alleynian Regatta Win for Colet Boat Club

In early September nine Old Paulines, with leaving dates ranging from 2012 to 2015, congregated at Putney Embankment to compete in the annual Alleynian Regatta – a series of 500-metre rowing races hosted by Dulwich College for alumni boat clubs.

The OP crew (Colet Boat Club) drew the hosts Dulwich in the opening race. After a very close first few hundred metres, they eventually secured a solid victory of three quarters of a length. After Elizabethan Boat Club (Westminster Old Boys) comfortably despatched Hampton alumni in the other semi-final, the stage was set for yet another tussle between St Paul’s and Westminster in 2015.

A strong start from Colet enabled the crew to establish a one-length lead at the half way mark over the favourites from Westminster, who had won four of the last six Alleynian Regattas. Despite severely tiring legs the crew maintained their lead to take the win and conclude a successful season for the Colet Boat Club in which two crews entered into Head of the River and another eight attempt to qualify for the Thames Challenge Cup at Henley.
