The Future of… will include a series of fireside chats on The Future of Britain between Old Pauline Club President, Lord Vaizey of Didcot, and an array of alumni.
As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Old Pauline Club, we have decided to look to the future. As we modernise and update the Club, and seek to attract greater involvement from Old Paulines, we want to invite people to come to hear and participate in important discussions about the future direction of Britain. We will be discussing this future with a number of eminent Old Paulines, who have generously agreed to give their time and talk frankly. What will happen in British politics over the next ten years? What will change about Britain’s place in the world? What is the future of key public services like healthcare and education? And what about business and the arts?
Please do come and hear these talks in person, on various evenings at the school over the next few months, and enjoy a drink with our speakers. It will be lovely to see you, but if you can’t make it, we will of course be streaming the talks as well.
This event will be held in a hybrid format – if you would like to attend the event in person, there will be a soft drinks reception at 6.30pm, followed by the interview at 7.00pm. Tickets are available to book for £10 here. (Please note that the Live event is now sold out, however, we still have plenty of tickets for the Livestream available.)
Alternatively, this event will be streamed live to our community via Zoom – please register here.
Speaker:
George Osborne OP, 1984-89, joins us with The Future of: Britain’s Politics. George Osborne was appointed one of the youngest ever Chancellors of the Exchequer in 2010, and served the full term of the Cameron administration until 2016. He left the House of Commons in 2017, having served sixteen years as an MP. Since leaving politics, he has undertaken a variety of roles, including editing London’s Evening Standard. He now works as a banker with Robey Warshaw, and is chairman of the British Museum. We are interviewing George just as he takes up his important role at the Museum. Expect a wide-ranging discussion on the future direction of British politics and the economy.
Suggested donation – £10 per household.
