This Topical Tuesdays talk comes ahead of the 350th anniversary of Old Pauline and poet John Milton’s (1608 -1674) death on 8 November.
Hosted by St Paul’s Head of English Faculty, Mr Matt Gardner, who will be studying Paradise Lost with his pupils in Autumn Term, John Venning will offer a consideration of some of the assumptions around Milton’s reputation.
John Venning was Head of English at St Paul’s from 1989-2014. The Milton Building was so named at his suggestion. He fought any attempt to remove Milton from the list of A Level set books (particularly when that suggestion came from the Head of English at Westminster). He is NOT a Milton specialist.
