The Gift of Education – Support the OPC 150th Appeal by leaving a legacy to St Paul’s School

Please join us On 31 January at 7pm for our second virtual Legacy Event, at which Old Pauline Club President Ed Vaizey will speak about the life changing impact of legacy giving.

This talk will be a particular opportunity for those interested in supporting the Old Pauline 150th Appeal through a gift in their will. All new legacy pledges will be included in the OPC 150th Appeal, for which the club is looking to raise £1.5m in the course of Ed Vaizey’s presidency.

St Paul’s has been built on a tradition of benefaction and inclusivity, with each generation benefitting from the generosity of those who have gone before. We recognise that many people have demands on their finances which prevent them from making a gift to St Paul’s in their lifetime. Others may have made donations to the School during their lifetime but also wish to leave a gift as a final gesture.

Legacies are an easy and tax advantageous way to support St Paul’s. All gifts are exempt from inheritance tax and, for estates that leave 10% or more to charity, there is a reduction in inheritance tax from 40% to 36%. Legacies of all sizes make a huge difference and play a very important part in securing the future of St Paul’s.

When you leave a legacy to St Paul’s, you can specify how you would like it to be used. You may wish to support a specific area, such as bursaries or capital projects, or ask for it to be allocated to the area of greatest need, which is at the Governors’ discretion.

All those who decide to leave a legacy to St Paul’s, or indeed have already mentioned the school in their will, are invited to become a member of the Colet Society. Members and their families are invited to special school events throughout the year, such as the annual High Master’s summer drinks and the School carol service. There will also be invitations to visit during term time to see the modern day school and staff in action. Members of the society will have their name recognised in the annual philanthropy report and receive a Colet Society tie or pin badge.
