Update On The Great Tour

Hugh Roberts (1969-74) and Robin Young (1975-79) are 41 days into ‘The Great Tour’ – their ride covers the entire coastline of England, Scotland and Wales – all 6,700km of it. They are trying to complete the ride in 64 days.

Robin has reported in ‘Now on day 41 of 64. Nearly 4,500 km done or roughly a million pedal strokes. Wales and the West Country loom. Scotland is done. I have a blog that still thinks I’m in the Highlands. It was difficult to keep up to date through that stretch with cataclysmic weather, long days and whisky, but I’m keeping the pages coming as fast as I can. Off to Liverpool today.’

Planning for tour was so difficult due to Covid that Hugh and Robin did not have official agreements in place with charity partners when they set out. They do now. They are splitting any money raised equally between the Great Tour – to cover the start up costs of launching this ride as an annual charity challenge – Diabetes UK and Ambitious about Autism. The JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/the-great-tour has been updated. The £69k target is equivalent to about £10 per km.
